It has been over a week since I last blogged.
I am falling behind already. It was my personal goal to blog every couple of days.
But this temporary living situation is killing me. It just puts me in a bad mood and then I have nothing good to say. Venting wouldn't be a problem, except that I vowed that recruiting duty would not get the best of me and by writing about how much it sucks would be admitting defeat.
But did you notice how I said temporary living situation?
Yes!
I acknowledge that this living situation is just temporary!
It's not recruiting duty that is driving me crazy as much as it is living in this extended stay.
We are approaching two months living in hotels now. Two freaking months.
All my clothes are packed away in lala land. When we left San Diego, the weather across the country was warm, even hot in some places. So I packed accordingly; some shorts, sandals, t-shirts, and a couple of hoodies and 2 pairs of closed toed shoes. And those 2 pairs are converse and moccasins...not really hurricane wearing shoes.
Since leaving San Diego, the weather has made a turn for the worse...it's actually turned into a hurricane now. We are on the outskirts of Sandy, but are still getting some heavy rain and wind.
And I have no proper clothes to wear. Poor me.
Besides my clothes and shoes, I am missing my printer, my books, my dvr, my dishes/cookware, bed and couch. I can't get anything done in this extended stay. That's not true, I am sure I could get some things done, but it's just really difficult. I bought a crochet hook and some yarn at Joann's the other day. I have this grand idea of teaching myself how to crochet, but all the supplies are still in the bag.
On the other hand, I have become very good at shopping for Baby Fern (my sister's baby that is due very soon). She is going to love Auntie Gini.
There is even a decent outlet mall here. Real civilization at last!
Anyways, I planned on signing up to be a substitute teacher, but 1)all my business-like clothes are packed away and 2) there is a hurricane and the schools are closed for the next 2 days.
Sandy is really putting a damper on my productivity.
One good thing about Sandy, is that Brandon got to come home from work today. He came home at noon. It was awesome. We went to lunch and to TJ Maxx (We're maxxinistas!).
Then home to watch the storm outside and on the television.
Brandon has been doing very well at work. On Thursday, he took his first kid to MEPS to swear in. That's right, in his first week of recruiting duty, Brandon got a contract. He is not even on production yet (when your contract numbers actually count) and he already got 1. He actually has 3 other kids committed to joining, but they haven't sworn in yet, so we'll count those later.
He also has made contacts with all the high schools and met important people there...he may just help me get an internship. Before we got out here, he thought I would be the key to the high schools, but really, I think he is going to be the one that hooks me up.
He has to go to the social security office with a kid tomorrow and do a high school set up, but the schools are closed, and government offices might be too, so we may just get another free day again tomorrow.
