The Money Pit

This is what our house looks like after a holiday weekend, two days back to work and then two days sick beyond measure.

The sink might not look so bad, but those pans in there, at the bottom of the sink have been soaking for 5 days.
I'm gross, I know.

I can't believe we even had clean clothes to wear!

Brandon's mom and step-dad came to visit us for the holiday weekend. It was so nice to have them stay with us in our new home. We haven't seen them since our wedding, over a year ago, so it was about time we got to see each other! (They will get their own special blog spotlight when I upload our pictures!)

After they left on Tuesday morning, it was back to the grind. I think I was beginning to get sick because I was so tired after work on Tuesday and Wednesday and headed straight for my pajamas the second I got home. It also meant that I was too tired to clean or do laundry, so the piles built up. Then on Thursday, it hit me. This nasty cold hit me straight on. I couldn't breathe, talk, move, eat, etc. I had to stay home from work for two days. Finally, on Saturday I started to feel a little better. Like I took a shower better. And I started to work on those ugly piles of housework that somehow multiplied in two days.

While taking a break from cleaning on Saturday, we started watching "The Money Pit."

Ironically, it sparked us to renovate something in our house. So we grabbed the nearest tools and started hacking away at the bead board in our dining area.

Luckily, we didn't do any damage and the walls behind the bead board looked alright. I was waiting for us to punch a hole through the drywall and expose termite damage or something horrible. But thankfully, we didn't. Of course after we took down this portion of the bead board, we HAD to go to Home Depot to check out our options for replacement. Home Depot trips never seem to be quick trips. I believe we spent 45 minutes just in the saw aisle debating what kind of table saw we should get. After five different Home Depot employees asked us if we needed help and nearly an hour later, we decided to wait on the table saw and google reviews at home. Ha! We left Home Depot with paint thinner and gloves, but nothing to cover up our demolished walls. We aren't the most ambitious of people and Brandon does work really long hours, so we gave ourselves three weeks to get these walls all fixed up. I hope telling the world our goal will help us to actually accomplish it. Check back in 21 days!

  1. I've done the same thing with Home Depot, Lowes and Sears. Check out what they have and then research it at home. It's good to buy a quality product the first time. It saves you time and money in the long run.
