What the heck is that, you ask?
It is a 5k team race throughout Boston. Your team must push a shopping cart to checkpoints, which just happen to be bars. At each bar, you are required to stay for 20 minutes and participate in competitions.
Our group had two different teams, The Log Jammers (Lumberjacks) and The Tree Huggers (trees). We had to decorate shopping carts to match our team themes. We already at a shopping cart at work, but we needed one more. So yours truly, a professional shopping cart borrower, "borrowed" one from the Salvation Army. I know, I am so going to hell.
We decorate our carts, dressed up and headed to Boston last Saturday morning. It was my first time going to Boston so I was really excited. The meeting place for the race was right outside Fenway Park. It was the most hilarious sight I have ever seen. People dressed up in all sorts of costumes with matching shopping carts. Some carts and costumes were very extravagant and detailed. My favorite, I think, were a group of guys dressed up as Top Gun and they turned their shopping cart into a paper mache jet.
We won! Just kidding, we didn't at all, but we thought we'd take these winner pictures with the trophy!
Our carts, or my team's cart, looked so bad, I am not posting a picture. I swear it was decorated cute, but the trip to Boston must have been too rough for it.
Never the less, it was so much fun. I was hesitant to participate at first, since I am not a runner, but my boss assured me that there wouldn't be much running. Lies! Our group ran the entire time. I was dying and luckily some team members didn't feel like running after a few drinks, but still, it was a major workout for me. My legs were sore for three days after the race.
I can't wait to go back to Boston and I can't wait for the Boston Urban Iditarod again!
