I'm trying to be adventurous out here, enjoy the different climate and opportunities this part of the country has to offer me before I have to move to some other crazy place the Marine Corps sends me. Coming from California, I am accustomed to the nice, warm, pleasant weather all year round. Moving to New England has been quite the experience for me, and I don't love the cold weather but I am trying to stay positive about it and immerse myself in activities that I normally never would. Hence, why I went ice fishing.
When I first stepped onto the lake, it was slippery and we were sliding all over the place. And every now and then you'd here a crack or feel a slight shift in the ice. Not very comforting when it's your first time. But my boss assured my the ice was at least 12 inches thick and there was no way we were going to fall in. Brawley roamed all over the lake. It appeared that he was completely unaware that he was walking on ice. I caught him sitting and even laying on it! Not sure how he didn't feel it or if he was just so happy to be on an adventure he didn't notice.
Brandon helped dig the holes and set up the tip-ups. The girls sat around watching and chatting. The sun was out and it wasn't even that cold. It felt nice. Like a total ice fishing newbie, I forgot my jacket at home and my poor husband went sans jacket. Luckily Brandon is a temperature diva and wore about 20 layers, so I didn't feel too bad. We sat around for a few hours with no luck catching any fish. Then the clouds covered the sun and it got wicked cold. We packed up and headed home, fishless. It was a fun experience and I'm glad to live in an area where I can try lots of new things and have people who encourage me to do so! #allisonmademedoit
